Presence of Wormian bone at bregma and paired frontal bone in an Indian skull

چکیده
Introduction Frontal bone is one of the unpaired bones of the skull. The bone develops in two halves and presents a metopic suture between the two in the fetal life; however, the suture disappears completely before or shortly after birth. Bregma is the meeting point of the sagittal and coronal sutures. It is represented by the anterior median fontanelle in the fetal life. The fontanelle obliterates usually by 18

Human skull with complete metopic suture and multiple sutural bones at lambdoid suture – a case report
Introduction Frontal bone of the skull develops in two halves during the fetal life separated by the metopic suture. The suture normally disappears soon after the birth [1]. The persistent complete metopic suture extending from the nasion to bregma is called metopism [2]. Lambda represent the meeting point of the sagittal and lambdoid suture. It represents the site of posterior median fontanel ...
متن کاملMultiple Wormian bones at the lambdoid suture in an Indian skull
The ‘Wormian bones’ or ‘sutural bones’ are small bones found at the sutures of the skull. They are unnamed bones because they vary from person to person in number and shape. They are commonly found in relation to the frontal and occipital bones. It is important to know about these bones because they can mislead in the diagnosis of fracture of skull bones. We saw a series of sutural bones in the...
متن کاملHiding Within the Cracks: Case Report of Rare Sutural Bone Found at the Nasion
Pathology such as skull fractures can be misdiagnosed in the presence of anatomical variations. One variant that has had little description in the literature are the sutural bones associated with the nasal bones. Herein, we describe a case of a rare sutural bone at the nasion, between the bones of the right nasal, frontal, and maxillary frontal process. To our knowledge, this is the first repor...

متن کاملMorphological variability of pterion in the human skull.
The pterion is one of the most interesting bone meeting points in craniofacial osteology and its complex morphology derives from the fact that is the contact point of the facial skeletal elements, skull base and calvarium. Knowledge of its peculiar morphology is mandatory for the pterional approach used in microsurgery and surgery. The Authors studied 506 adult, human skulls where the pterion w...
